South Shore: Maalaea, Kihei to Wailea
The South Shore area includes Ma’alea by some, North and South Kihei, Wailea and Makena, and is defined as 9 square miles of land, 6 miles of beaches and 2.5 miles of water. Kihei is “the” beach town on Maui’s southwest shore, which is also the sunniest, driest end of the island. Kihei’s Kalama Beach Park’s offer 36 oceanfront acres and are dotted with shady lawns and palm trees. Also located here are “the Cove” surf spot, beach volleyball courts, a roller-skating rink, a skate park, basketball and tennis courts, two baseball fields, picnic pavilions and a playground for younger kids. North of Kihei is Ma’alaea Bay, where day boats launch to take visitors on whale watching expeditions, charter fishing excursions and snorkel trips to Molokini. Ma’alaea is also home to the educational Maui Ocean Center. Ma’alea has a strip of ocean front condominium and a few housing sites and offers peace and tranquil views of all of the south shore, Kaho’olawe marine preserve and amazing sunsets.

South of Kihei, is Wailea which boasts beautiful crescent-shaped beaches and is also home to several great restaurants in the area & luxury hotels and outdoor shopping malls. The region of Wailea-Makena boasts luxury ocean front condo’s, high end homes behind gated communities and sprawling estates to satisfy any home buyers top end home tastes.

Makena, a little farther south of Wailea and is made up of beaches in the raw, rugged volcanic coastline, and lush tropical land. One of the most beautiful areas on Maui, Makena is the southern-most point you can visit on Maui.
