West Maui: Kapalua, Lahaina, Kaanapali

Once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty and the capitol of the Hawaiian Kingdom, the sunny northwest coast of Maui is home to spectacular resorts, shopping, restaurants, a wealth of activities and some of the most amazing sunsets in the world.

Leaving south central Maui and driving north from Ma’alaea and the Maui Ocean Center, the first stop is the old whaling town of Lahaina. Once one of Hawaii’s busiest ports, the town of Lahaina and Front Street is lined with historic buildings, busy retail shops and winter whale watching. Driving north you will be in the amazing Ka’anapali Resort where there is an oceanfront beach walk, lots of libations and food grotto’s, people watching on the beach, shopping at some of the oceanfront malls and boutique gelato shops to enjoy an amazing sunset and soak in the view.

Continuing north will lead you to Kapalua, home to world famous championship golf and private residential and luxury resort getaways. The islands of Lanai and Molokai are just across the channel where more exploration awaits. The weather here is cooler with brisk north trade winds and light rains in the afternoon. The views of Molokai will take your breath away.
